A
Governorship aspirant of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change
(CPC), Hon Olalekan Banjo has declared that he would not step down for
Governor Rauf Aregbesola despite the merger between his defunct party and
that of Aregbesola.
Hon Banjo in a statement issued in Osogbo said he remains a Governorship
aspirant of the newly registered All Progressives Congress (APC) like
Governor Aregbesola.
The APC had last Tuesday in Osogbo adopted Aregbesola as its governorship
candidate for the next year gubernatorial election in the state.
But, Banjo, an Ile-Ife born legal practitioner insisted that he would
continue with his ambition which he said he had been nursing before the
registration of APC.
According to him “I have not for once dropped my gubernatorial ambition for
anybody whatsoever and in whatever manner. ACN has Aregbesola as its
gubernatorial candidate while I am also a gubernatorial aspirant of the CPC
and now that of the APC.”
He also declared that the APC has not chosen any candidate to represent it
in the next year gubernatorial poll as rumoured in some quarters.
In another development, the defunct CPC in the state has called for a
congress of the newly registered APC where new leaders of the party would
emerge.
In a statement issued by Mr Francis Oyebanji, the Vice-Chairman (South
West) of the defunct CPC, the party dissociated itself from the leadership
of Mr Adelowo Adebiyi, the acting Chairman of the defunct ACN who is now
the interim chairman of the APC in the state.
