“Food and shelter remain tops on man’s hierarchy of needs; therefore, every police officer needs and deserves not just a temporary shelter but a modest home of his own”. This popular quote by the trail blazer, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar was part of the words of promise and encouragement brought by the acting Assistant Inspector General of Police, (AIG) in charge of Zone XI, CP M.A Ndawabal to the officers and men of Nigeria Police Force, Zone XI, Osogbo and that of Osun State Police Command.
The acting AIG who doubles as the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State while on a tour to the Commands in Zone XI which started at the Osun State Police Command Headquarters and later to the Zonal Headquarters, Osogbo told both officers and men of the Zone of the IGP’s stride in bringing new lease of life to all serving members of the Police community.
While backing his words up with the recently commissioned 200 units of three-bedroom flats constructed for officers and men of Lagos State Command, the acting AIG maintained that the housing estate which was christened after President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was a sigh that good times are here in the Nigeria Police Force.
He stated further that the Inspector General of Police, who has been described as a Guinness Book of Record achiever is concerned with the deplorable state of barracks across the nation adding that the Lagos Police housing estate was funded by the police through its Mortgage Bank with an assurance that such gesture would cover other parts of the country in order to address deficit in housing for officers of the Nigeria Police across the country.
He posited that the Police Management Team is working round the clock to ensure a good welfare package for all officers and men stressing the need for effective service delivery. According to him, the IGP’s transformation agenda is yielding visible desired result with various laudable projects and achievements in place.
On FOKAS Savings and Loans Limited which is a way for police to access the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria load through the Nigeria Police Savings and Loans Limited, (Mortgage Banker), the acting AIG maintained, is already a success with equity shares of two hundred and seventy million alongside technical guidance and following corporate negotiations. The Nigeria Police Cooperative Multipurpose Society Limited, he said, also acquired two hundred and fifty million shares from the total equity share of the company which amounts to 93percent of the FOKAS.
“The initiative guarantees a comfortable home for every officer of the Nigeria Police Force yielding results within the next one year. The IGP is fully aware of the challenges facing the retirees, hence prepared the package in such a way that all officers would be part of owners of the Police Mortgage Bank as well-thought out retirement plan to enable every officer access the housing loan and acquire their own home”, he said.
While speaking further, the acting AIG Ndabawa charged officers of the Zone and Osun State Police Command to work vigorously in order to buy back confidence from the rank and files. He said, “Members of Inspectors, rank and file doesn’t have confidence in their superior officers and I believe that it is the lack of trust and confidence that brought about insinuations about the deductions of FOKAS Mortgage Bank”.
In a way to allay the fear of officers on some issues going on within the Nigeria Police, the acting AIG stressed that the advantage of the acquired Mortgage Bank is to the members of the NPF since the police have N8 billion which cannot be assessed stressing further that the police owns the bank and it’s for the benefit of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
On uniform, the police boss said the uniform is not for sale as against the rumor making waves that the IGP has ordered the deduction of the money for the uniform. “if the O/C store demand for money you should report to the CP or DC. The uniform is for the rank and file and it comes in batches, so if you don’t have, kindly exercise patience”, he said.
Giving vote of thanks, the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Dorothy Gimba appreciated the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar, the Acting AIG, M.A Ndabawa and other high ranking officers who present at the lecture. CP Gimba admonished officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to always have positive thoughts towards the Nigeria Police.
She posited that the police management team is working round the clock to provide adequate welfare package police personnel adding that the good times are here in the Nigeria Police Force.
