THE REASON BEHIND KWARA UNTED AND ABS FC RELEGATION REVEALED
Sports enthusiasts in Ilorin have expressed their shock and sadness over the relegation of their two darling teams. The Cross section of supporters and fans who spoke to Daily Trust in Ilorin described the relegation as a sad day for sports in the state of harmony.
The two premier league clubs, KWARA UNITED and ABS FC ended up in relegation after the conclusion of the league on Sunday. The Samson Unuanel tutored Kwara United settled for a 1-1 draw with visiting AKWA UNITED at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja to finish 17th on the log with 50 points while ABS FC lost 0:1 to WARRI WOLVES at away to finish 18th also with 50 points.
Speaking out of sad look, the Chairman of Kwara United Supporters' Club, Alhaji Sulaiman Oba said
the relegation of the two teams was unfortunate. He said he was particularly saddened that despite the
huge amount of money injected in Kwara United, the resources doesn't have impact on the team.
Alhaji Oba blamed the Afonja Warriors' woes on the crises between the board and the management committee, saying the board felt sidelined in the management of the team and was hell-bent on ensuring its downfall.
He however advised the government to learn a lesson
from the teams relegation and appoint the competent people including supporters into the board just as he urged the players to stay behind and not exit the team at this point in time.
Also, the Sports Writers' Association of Nigeria
(SWAN), Kwara State chapter described the relegation as unfortunate and disastrous. In a statement signed by the Chairman, Bunmi Adedoyin
and the Secretary, Jimoh Bashir, the association urged the two clubs, especially their supporters and fans to learn a lesson from the avoidable fall.
SWAN described the relegation of the two clubs as a big shame, especially to the so called stakeholders in the state who have leveraged on the existence of the two clubs only for their selfish interest.
The body vowed to expose all those behind the ugly
development, even as they called on all genuine
stakeholders to come together to discuss the way
forward for the two teams.

GHANA DESTROYS EGYPT 6-1
Ghana completely took
apart Egypt to take a commanding lead in the first leg of their 2014 World Cup
qualifier,winning by a massive 6-1.
Three goals in each half did the damage for Ghana,as they annihilated Egypt whom everybody wanted to avoid during the draws for the qualifiers.
Asamaoh Gyan opened the scores for Ghana inside five minutes, latching on to a cross and hitting it at the far post for 1-0.
Ghana with the momentum ran the Egyptian defence ragged. Andre Ayew slipped in a pass to returnee Michael Essien, the Chelsea midfielder took apart two players and almost missed the opportunity before it rebounded off Wael Gomaa for 2-0.
Egypt however looked to have gotten a lifeline when Mohammed Salah was fouled in the box. Mohammed Abouterika stepped up and scored from the spot, his 38th international goal for the Pharaohs.
Just some minutes to the break Ghana extended their lead, through Majeed Waris who headed in the third goal of the match.
After the break Gyan grabbed his second of the match, heading in Sulley Muntari's scissors kick to make it 4-1.
There seemed to be no comeback for Egypt, who were further pelted with goals. Ghana got their fifth goal through the spot after the keeper fouled Waris. Muntari stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to further rub salt on injury for the Egyptians.
But there was to be further humiliation for Egypt,as substitute Christain Atsu belted in an unstoppable shot beyond the keeper to make the scores 6-1.
The win puts Ghana on the threshold of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil,as it looks very difficult for the Egyptians to overhaul a five-goal deficit.

SUPER SIX DATE NOT FEASIBLE
The proposed Nigeria Women's
Professional League (NWPL) Super Six final billed for the Samson Siasia
Stadium, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State from October 20 to 26 will no longer hold as
scheduled.
The Super Six clash is the last
programme on the league body's calendar that determines the winners of its
regular league season.
The football fiesta would have seen
the best six finishers during the regular season namely title holders, Delta
Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Pelican Stars, Bayelsa Queens, FC Robo and Federation
Cup winners, Rivers Angels take to the pitch to decide the new champions for
the 2012/13 NWPL season.
The NWPL chairperson, Dilichukwu
Onyedinma said the dates are not feasible due to the qualifying matches
involving some of the women's national teams.
“Early information on the programme
put out by the secretary, Isaac Ajisafe to the clubs on the Super Six and venue
was done hastily and not in full consultation with the board.
“The dates clashed with the
Falconets’ World Cup qualifying match and that of the Under-17, the Flamingoes.
“We won’t want to create an uneven
ground for the clubs whose players will be involved in the national
assignments, we’ll want all the six teams to have their best legs available for
the Super Six clash.
“Those dates are no longer feasible
including the scheduled venue, we’ll sit down to work out a suitable new date
and venue after the teams’ qualifying matches.
“The Super Six competition is held in
the highest esteem by the board and we’ll do everything to ensure it receives
the best treatment both in planning and execution,” said Onyedinma to
supersport.com.
The 2013 Federation Cup finalists,
Nasarawa Amazons emerged top of NWPL Group A on 33 points while title holders,
Delta Queens came second on 32 points and FC Robo third on 31 points.
The Cup winners, Rivers Angels topped
the table in Group B on 40 points followed by Bayelsa Queens on 37 points and
Pelican Stars on 35 points.
