Excerpts Of Bola Tinubu's Interview On AlJazeera

Nigeria’s political landscape has changed. It will change forever and change for good. The scale and balance of power is tilting and changing to the opposition. We are moving from imperialism to proper democracy.

This development will start reshaping the landscape of politics in this country forever.

Not for us only but for the generation unborn. And the future of this country to take its position as a leader in Africa. And not just a well populated country that is big and directionless.

PDP Governors & APC Strike Power-Sharing Deal

The merger between the APC and the five of the G-7 governors is still on course and with the way the PDP in Abuja is talking tough, the remaining two governors may soon join the train. The new Peoples Democratic Party said on Wednesday that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the All Progressives Congress that will prevent any clash of interest in future.
According to an insider in the party: “We have agreed that the New PDP governors would control the APC structures in their states. For Kano and Sokoto, we will reconcile the governors and their predecessors.”

Anambra Election Debacle: It's Time To End Electoral Impunity

By Chief Bisi Akande

It is said that when bad things happen, it provides a chance for good people to make things better! The mess that has been made of the Anambra election by the same body saddled with ensuring that it is free and fair is indeed a bad thing. While the Anambra debacle, in which INEC apparently acted out a script written by the presidency and the PDP, represents a new low in the country's unenviable saga of electoral impropriety, it must now signal the death knell for electoral malfeasance and brigandage in Nigeria.

Make no mistake about it: If something drastic but lawful is not done now to stop this electoral impunity, our country is ultimately heading for the precipice. This is not about crying wolf where none exists. The wolf is here and ready to pounce. Our challenge is to stop it before it is too late. As things stand, we have a dangerous admixture of Power and Impunity, and the end product cannot but be explosive.

Why Jonathan Should Start Preparing To Vacate Aso Rock

Late Tuesday morning, at about 11:46, the National Chairman of the New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, formally announced the merger of the party with the All Progressives Congress (APC). The merger was contained in a communiqué which Alhaji Baraje read to journalists at the end of a meeting between the leadership of New PDP and that of the APC held at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The communiqué signed by Bisi Akande the APC National Chairman and Kawu Abubakar Baraje the National Chairman of NPDP reads, “A meeting of the leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, and the new PDP met this morning at the residence of the Kano State Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Abuja and after exhaustive deliberations the two parties agreed to merge in order to rescue our fledgling democracy and the nation”

Finally, G7 Governors Agree To Dump PDP and Move To APC

The crisis rocking the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) seems to have finally reached a climax with the G-7 governors resolving to join the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC). This comes barely 24 hours after President Goodluck Jonathan chose to ignore a planned meeting with the governors which was seen as a make or break meeting between them and the President.

Following Jonathan's decision to postpone the meeting and the set up of a disciplinary committee by PDP, the G7 governors met behind closed doors in Abuja on Monday night and take strong decisions.

The strategic meeting, which ended around 12:30am on Tuesday was very frank and the governors all agree that staying in the PDP will not do them any good.

Six of the governors voted in favour of dumping the PDP and joining the APC, now that they still have enough time to win more converts in the states and in the National Assembly.

Governors Sule Lamide of Jigawa State is however not in a hurry. He believes Obasanjo and a few men in the North can still do something and compel Jonathan to respect his agreement to serve only one term.

But a large number of Senators and majority of House of Reps members are ready to follow G7 governors.

The principal of the school, Mr. Layi Oguntola, was allegedly beaten and injured and he is currently receiving treatment at the Baptist Medical Centre, Ejigbo.

The attackers said they came because the school authorities stopped some Muslim pupils from wearing the hijab. The hijab is a scarf that covers the head and chest, specially worn by a Muslim female. The attackers allegedly stormed the school while the students were already seated in their classrooms.

Crisis Hits APGA In Anambra: Ekwunife Sues Obiano

The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, now has a fresh set of crises to deal with as the first runner-up its governorship primaries in Anambra State, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife, has gone to court to challenge the eligibility of the party’s candidate in the November 16 election, Chief Willie Obiano.

Ekwunife, a member of the House of Representatives, is contending that the alleged double registration status of Obiano with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as a voter should have disqualified him from contesting the election, in the first place.

Online War Over Real Cause of President Jonathan's Sickness

A dispute between the Presidency and an online news medium, Sahara Reporters, has introduced a new twist to the health challenge that President Goodluck Jonathan had in London last week Thursday. The matter was provoked by a response by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, to the online media's story on the President's illness.

They had reported that Jonathan’s health broke down in London after engaging in heavy drinking during a bash organised to mark his 56th birthday in his hotel room in London.

Oyinlola's Lawyer Warns PDP To Tread Softly

The Peoples Democratic Party has been cautioned to "tread slowly in order not to render superior courts of records toothless" in its current attempts to enforce disciplinary actions against the National Secretary of the Party, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja and Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure, who have all been accused of violating some provisions of the PDP constitution. The four officials of the party have been arraigned before the Umaru Dikko led disciplinary committee of the Party.

The Presidency has stated that President Goodluck Jonathan will return to the country on Sunday evening from London, where he attended the 15th meeting of the Honorary International Investors Council. His spokesman, Reuben Abati, who announced the President’s return via a statement, also disclosed that Jonathan’s illness while in London was due to severe abdominal pains.

Meanwhile, Jonathan on Saturday denied reports that his health broke down in London after engaging in what was described as a drinking spree during a bash organised to mark his 56th birthday.

Amaechi Asks Okonjo-Iweala Questions Over the Missing Billion

How much exactly has Nigeria earned from its oil sales in 2013?

The last appears not to have been heard on the claim that part of the money in the Excess Crude Account (ECA) is missing as Governor Rotimi Amaechi of River State, on Saturday faulted the Minister of Finance, Dr (Mrs) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on the matter.

In a point by point response to the minister, who is Coordinating the Economy for President Goodluck Jonathan, on her claim that the $5billion allegedly missing from the ECA had been shared to the three tiers of government to make up for the revenue shortfalls during the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee process while part of it also went for SURE-P payments and the balance for subsidy payments to oil marketers, Governor Amaechi said that is not the true position of things...

Anambra Election: Osun APC arrested fake observers must be jailed - Adeyeye

Afenifere Chieftain and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has said that one of the ways for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sanitise the electoral system ahead of the 2014 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States is to make sure that those 181 All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs from Osun State who claimed to be election observers and were arrested in Owerri, Imo State are jailed.

Adeyeye, who was reacting to the INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega's insistence during a press conference on Friday, that the 181 miscreants, who claimed to be
election observers and were arrested in Owerri, Imo State were fake as they were not accredited by the commission to monitor the election, said; "If these people are not punished to serve as deterrent to others, one can begin to wonder how many thousands of thugs will invade Ekiti State under the guise of election monitors during the next year election.

Jega had said, “the so-called election observers from Osun State are fake. They did not belong to any accredited organisation. They did not come to Awka, the state capital, where the accreditation took place. They went to camp in Owerri for only God knows reasons. We should commend the security agencies that caught them before they could wreak their havoc.

APC Rejects INEC's Supplementary Election In Anambra

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected in its totality the announcement on Friday by INEC to hold supplementary election in Anambra State on November 30th, 2013.

It expressed absolute shock and incredulity that INEC could even talk of organizing a supplementary election, despite the weight of credible evidence presented by the party as well as election monitors and observers that what transpired on November 16th was nothing but a sham.

PDP Makes U-Turn On Anambra Election

Following heavy criticisms from well-meaning Nigerians over its unpopular position on the fraudulent election in Anambra State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has made a U-turn on its earlier position on the sham and inconclusive poll which took place on November 16 in Anambra State.

The PDP, through its Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metur, had described the controversial election as free, fair and very credible, and even praised President Gooodluck Jonathan for the success of an on-going election.

The personal doctor to the President was said to have administered some drugs to him but his pain escalated, hence he has been rushed to the hospital.

Baraje, Oyinlola Won’t Appear Before Disciplinary Panel ––nPDP

We have read from some of the national dailies of the alleged summoning of the PDP National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola; nPDP National Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, National Deputy Chairman, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, and the National Vice-Chairman, North West, Ambassador Ibrahim Kazaure, by the PDP Disciplinary Committee said to be headed by Second Republic Minister, Alhaji Umaru Dikko.

Our initial reaction was to ignore these reports since the PDP Constitution does not recognize the existence of the so-called Dikko Committee as due process was not followed in its establishment. Besides, the fact that the committee – if at all it exists – did not have the courtesy to directly invite the accused to appear before it strips it of any atom of seriousness.

Woman Caught With Dead New Born Baby Inside Sack

A 40-year-old widow identified as Mujidat was caught on Wednesday with a dead day old baby hidden in a sack around her home at 2, Reverend Alimi street, NEPA phase 1, Ijagemo in Iba local council development area of Lagos state.

The mother of five was caught by a high Chief, Babatunde Balogun a member of the community when she was trying to dispose the baby at about 5p.m on Wednesday.

According to report, when Balogun questioned her on the content of the sack, she said it contained household items which bought from the market but when he looked closely, he noticed it was a dead day old baby which the woman had allegedly just delivered.

That was when he raised an alarm calling the attention of other residents.

Mujidat said she didn’t see the need of going to any hospital to deliver as she found delivery easy and therefore claimed to have done everything herself.

It was gathered that different men have been visiting her home after the death of her husband three years ago.

When asked if she planned to throw away the baby because of an alleged paternity mess, she denied, claiming that a welder turned block maker near her residence was responsible for the pregnancy that resulted in the birth of the dead baby she was caught with. .

Officials of the Community Development Association, CDA, in the area later accompanied the woman and her sack of baby to the Isheri-Oshun Police Division where the matter was reported.

At the time of this report, the woman was still being interrogated

MUST READ: My Daughters Told Me Their Father Had Séx With Them – A True Life Story

Please, help me solve this problem that has torn apart and is threatening my happiness, my daughters and probably the future generations yet unborn.

I married my husband just like every other young woman and we both looked forward to a blissfull future with our children. Contrary to the belief of some people that I would have problems bearing children, through God’s mercy, my three children came few years into our union.

A lot of people believed we would have to wait on the Lord for the blessing of the fruit of the womb as that was the tradition in my husband’s family, but God singled us out and we had our children without any hitch.

With these, our joy was complete and we never envisaged that these children would be a source of discord in our family now.

I am a trained nurse with a B.Sc in Nursing from Glasgow, Scotland and my husband is also a trained professional engineer. We both had good jobs until my husband lost his job and getting another good well paid job became difficult.

We both decided that I should travel out of the country to practise and when I am stabilised, he would join me with the children.

9 TIPS EVERY SMART WOMAN SHOULD FOLLOW

BY GREG AFAMAH

Dedicated and smart women, most times, fail to recognise their smartness. They often think to themselves that they're not ready to take on that next bigger task. They focus too much on what they are not qualified for than of what they are, and wait for somebody to discover or even validate them. But now, it’s time to step up and act as the smart woman that you are. These 10 tips for owning your smartness and bringing it to the world will help out:

1 You need to make an agreement: Nobody aside from you is going to shape the life you want for yourself. Nobody will even be able to wholly appreciate the life you want. No doubt, people will come and praise you on along the way, but know that it’s your life. You need to decide to be in it by yourself for the long haul, and be your very own supportive pal at every step of the way.

2 Start envisioning it: Ask yourself, what is the career that appears so unconceivable you think it’s very nearly unlawful to have it? Ask yourself what that dream is that you don’t let yourself even contemplate because it appears too impracticable, frivolous, or crazy? Envisioning it is the beginning of having it.

3 Things that can make you pulsate quickly: To get the adrenalin flowing in you, start doing things that will make you pulsate quickly. Find out what your gasp-level action is. What will chatter in your head are your uncertainties and a harsh innermost faultfinder. That’s fine and okay. When next you hear that monotonous, unfounded, unpleasant innermost faultfinder, think of it as just an awful deceiver, trying to keep you from any real or seeming possibilities. Try things that can make you pulsate quickly and you’ll see how untrue your innermost faultfinder’s story actually is, and how soluble your uncertainties are.

4 Get used to wins and losses: Sometimes you will get thumbs up if you take risks, and sometimes you won’t. There’s no leader or innovator who does not have passionate admirers and harsh criticisers. So get used to wins, losses, praise, pans, and being snubbed. Let go of craving to be liked and wanting to be generally identified as “Ms Nice Girl.”

5 Be a little more arrogant: Just try and be a little more arrogant even if it’s tough for you to do. Be more like those guys in the office who share their thoughts and rally everyone around their big, often unformed ideas without thinking. Move a few steps in that direction and you’ll be better off.

6 Don’t wait for an award: Don’t expect praises, anointments, validations or permission to lead from someone before you make that move. Don’t await invitation from anyone before sharing your voice. No one will discover you like that except after you have started bravely and unswervingly moving towards leadership, sharing your voice, and doing things that ordinarily scare the hell out of you.

7 Sieve the advice you get. Often, smart women are modest and open to advice and like to get opinions. But know that some people cannot comprehend what you are up to mostly because you are saying something new and advance. Some will find you out of their league; others will feel threatened, while the rest people will want to do just what is interesting or beneficial to them from your idea. Consequently, you should read between the lines of people’s opinions. Assess advice and weigh the fallouts, don’t just following it.

8 Stop, recover and restore: If you’ve done the things that make you pulsate quickly, doing what you don’t to a certain extent feel ready to do, and being more arrogant, you would have moved out of your comfort zone a great deal. So now be cautious and check how much risk-taking juice you have left. If it’s running low, you need to stop, recover and then restore.

9 Tell fellow women how smart they are: Mention to other women the kind of Smartness you see in them and why it’s so exceptional. Invite them into grander leadership and exploit. Make them believe that they are all set. Don’t think that because you had to struggle and suffer on your way up the ladder, they should too. Clear a path by being able to walk in it confidently.

35 senators have no Bills in two years to show for over N13b in earnings

By Amuda Lackren

Despite receiving more than N13 billion in salaries, allowances and benefits that clearly positions members of the Nigerian Senate as the world’s best paid lawmakers, at least 35 serving senators have not listed a single Bill in their name since taking office in 2011, an investigation by The Nigerian Voice has shown.

Between 2011 and June 2013, each senator drew about N400 million in salaries, allowances, and self-allocated bonuses, according to details of lawmakers’ allowances, as well as listed earnings for federal lawmakers stipulated by the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The Senate chamber in the National Assembly. The National Assembly is seen in some quarters as a huge drain to the nation’s finances.

For the 35 members, the sum for two years totals N13.2 billion, and N41 billion for all 109 members.

But while a majority of the lawmakers have made fair efforts at delivering in their primary law making duties, sponsoring at least one Bill between June 2011 and June 2013, 35 of them have posted not one.

In that duration, 74 senators, an impressive figure relative to past years, sponsored and followed through with a minimum of at least one legislation apiece. A few presented more than a dozen Bills, with the Senate Majority Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba(PDP, Cross River), sponsoring the highest number, 25.

Other Senators, each with a minimum of 10 Bills are Ben Ayade (PDP Cross Rivers state) – 18 Bills; Ita Enang, (PDP Akwa Ibom) – 13 Bills; Dominic Obende, (ACN Edo) – 12 Bills; Smart Adeyemi, (PDP Kogi) – 11 Bills; and Ifeanyi Okowa, (PDP Delta) – 11 Bills.

At the bottom of the ranking are two states – Zamfara and Borno – with none of their Senators presenting a single Bill in two years.

Senator Yerima, who is at the centre of the Child’s Rights Act controversy has not presented a Bill since he became a Senator.

The figures, provided by the Senate’s Business and Rules committee, which catalogues each member’s legislative activities from Bills, motions to petitions, appear a fresh justification for Nigerians’ perennial concern about how much their representatives at the National Assembly actually deliver to justify their huge annual earnings.

Each Senator, according to RMAFC, is entitled to N8.2 million annually or N683,000 monthly as salaries. This salaries are exclusive of allowances such as estacodes, cars and furniture.

But the comprehensive compensation runs far higher into several millions per quarter of a year, as the legislators also approve what they call “running cost” to themselves. For “running cost”, each senator currently draws N45 million quarterly – about N180 million annually, in addition to the “meagre” salary.

Lawmakers, weary of the public’s outrage over their pay, are often quick to cite the few hundreds of thousands monthly as nothing exceptional or deserving of the aggressive attention they receive.

But despite the huge pay, quite little has been delivered on legislation since 2011, according to the Business and Rules committee.

In all, 342 Bills have been presented to the Senate within the period; many of them, however,  are non-member Bills sent either by the executive, for example, budget bills; or forwarded by the House of Representatives for concurrence.

Of that number, only 28 bills have been fully passed by the Senate. Again, out of that of number, 20 are executive-sponsored. So, effectively, senators have only delivered fully on eight bills after drawing over N41 billion in earnings since 2011.

Senate President, David Mark, has not sponsored a Bill in the last two years.

The eight bills comprise of two each from Ndoma-Egba, and the deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, (Enugu State); and one apiece from Chris Anyanwu (Imo State); Paulinus Igwe (Imo State); Uche Chukwumerije (Abia State); and Dahiru Kuta, (Niger State).

The Business and Rules Committee chair, Ita Enang, said the apparently low output notwithstanding, the Senate recorded “tremendous achievements” with landmark bills in its first half of two years.

Some of the “landmark” Bills are Occupational Safety and Health Bill (Anyanwu); Court of Appeal amendment Bill (Ndoma-Egba); Act Authentication amendment Act (Igwe); Retirement Age of Staff of Polytechnics and Colleges of Education (Chukwumerije), Hyperdec Act amendment Bill (Kuta); Federal High Court Bill (Ekweremadu); Prisons repeal and re-enactment Act (Ndoma-Egba), and State of the Nation Address Bill (Ekweremadu).

The two relatively important Bills passed by the Senate and which could be considered landmark – Terrorism and Money Laundering amendment acts – are executive sponsored.

The lawmakers argue that besides Bills, the Senate has also delivered on other functions including motions and resolutions on pressing national issues, confirmation of appointments, as well as oversight duties on the other arms of government.

Those without Bills in two years, as analysed by The Nigerian Telegraph, based on figures from the Senate committee on Business and Rules are:

PRESS STATEMENT
DURA PACK WORKERS CONTINUE STRUGGLE FOR UNIONISATION AND DECENT WORK
SOLIDARITY ACTIONS BY TRADE UNIONS AND PRO-LABOUR ORGANISATIONS URGENTLY NEEDED!
INTRODUCTION
There was the continuation of mass protest and rally by Dura Pack workers to demand that Dura Pack management respect the right of workers to belong to a union of their choice as freely exercised on October 7, 2013. Today October 25, 2013 is the 19th day workers began the struggle to demand their rights to belong to a union of their choice and for better working condition. There was solidarity from pro-labour organisations like Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM), Joint Action Front (JAF), members of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education and Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR).
The National Secretary of JAF, Abiodun Aremu, the Deputy National President of the union (NUCFRLANMPE), Mr. Babatunde Goke Olatunji, the National Mobilisation Officer of JAF, Peluola Adewale addressed workers and the press. Mr. B.G Olatunji who represented the President of the union called on workers to remain resolute and that the union is ready to back their demands till the end. He informed the workers that the union has taken the management of Dura Pack to the National Industrial Court.  The workers were encouraged to fight on by the presence of members of the union and pro-labour organisations who came to give solidarity to them. Different placards were brandished by workers to drive home their demands. The placards read thus: “Mr. Law is a slave driver”, “End Casualisation Now”, “Mr. Law must go”, “Respect all Workers Right”, “we want Union of our Choice”, “workers need better working condition” etc.
Despite 3 CTV cameras that are positioned at the entrance of the gate, workers were not intimidated. Workers were enthusiastic and vowed to continue the actions until management respects workers’ rights. The Chinese management has introduced this tactics to intimidate workers and to spot leading workers’ activists for possible victimisation. It explains why the management rejected the union’s demand to sign agreement not to victimize workers after the strike actions
BELOW IS THE FULL TEXT OF THE LEAFLETS PRODUCED BY CDWR AND DISTRIBUTED TO WORKERS, PRESS AND THE PUBLIC
Since October 11, the workers of Dura Pack, Lagos, have been on indefinite strike over the demand for unionization and improved working conditions. The action actually started on October 7 when the mass movement of workers and pro-labour activists marking the International Decent Work Day picketed the factory to launch a trade union branch of the National Union of Chemical, Footwear and Non-Metallic Workers (NUCFRLANMPE). See: http://www.socialistnigeria.org/page.php?article=2273. The workers who had been working in slave-like conditions and on poor pay, felt liberated and emboldened to formally join the NUCFRLANMPE the union which had been trying to organize the workers in 2009. In the presence of the Chinese management of the company and mass contingent of workers and pro-labour activists led by Issa Aremu the NLC National Vice President, the workers elected a 7-man executive.
The workers however went on strike on October 8 after the management refused to recognize their right to join the union and form an executive. With the intervention of the Ministry of Labour which called a tripartite meeting of the ministry, management and union over the issues for October 10, the strike was suspended on October 9. It is instructive to state that the workers insisted that the Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights' (CDWR) which has been identifying and helping organize them since April 2013 should be represented at the meeting.
The workers resumed the strike on October 11 after learning that the management did not attend the October 10 meeting at the Ministry of Labour. Since then they have remained on strike with a daily protest rally as the management refused to meet their demands. When the management eventually appeared at another meeting at the ministry on October 17, they remained intransigent and refused to shift any ground. The union even offered that the workers could suspend the strike if the management signed agreement that no worker would be victimized as a result of the strike, and proposed another day within 7 days wherein the union would come to conduct another election. The management representatives refused and maintained that the management would not recognize the union because the picketing of the company by the NLC was unacceptable to them.
The management was represented by the company's lawyer and the Personnel Manager to the West Africa Rubber Factory in Ikorodu, who claimed to be representing the Lee Group. Lee is a group of Chinese companies notorious for rabid anti-labour practices. It should be recalled that at the West Africa Rubber Factory in 2002 about 30 workers on night duty were burnt to death in an inferno. The management who habitually treats workers as prisoners used to lock workers up inside the factory without any convenient outlet in case of emergency. This was why when there was fire incident on that fateful day there was no easy escape route for the workers. On the union delegation were seven of the elected representatives of the workers and CDWR representative.
Dura Pack workers have been agitating for the following: 1. Increment in salary, 2. Regularisation of workers through issuance of letter of employment to all workers and agree with workers on a new condition of service, 3. Well-structured and documentation of salary including paying workers with pay slips, 4. Reinstatement of Mr. Christian Orji without loss of pay and an end to all forms of victimization of workers, 5. Adequate safety tools to be provided for all workers, 6. All workers must have a right to proceed on annual, sick leave and holidays without loss of pay, 7. Well-equipped sick bay within the premises, 8. Reduction of work hours and increase in salary.
The workers are wantonly and unlawfully fired without compensation or entitlement. No worker has a letter of appointment and condition of service. Due to lack of safety work tools a worker Mr. Kenneth Frederick died of electrocution on 16th of April 2013.
No doubt the workers enthusiastically signed up to join union in order to have a platform to fight for better condition of service, collective bargaining and better working conditions the workers have resolved to continue the strike as long as management is not ready to recognize the union they have joined. The management has threatened that it will rather close production than recognizing the union. The union has to respond with all the seriousness that it deserves. We commend the efforts of the union but it has to do more to sustain the morale of the struggling workers. For instance, none of the top key officers of the union has visited the factory to address the workers, though the union is represented at the rally of the workers almost on a daily basis by middle ranking leaders.
The CDWR, whose members have helped sustain the struggle of the Dura Pack workers, calls on the NUCFRLANMPE to mobilize workers from its other factories and other industrial unions for solidarity actions in support of the workers. We propose a 24-hour warning strike from workers of West Africa Rubber Factory since NUCFRLANMPE is the union organizing workers and the company is part of the Lee Group. There should also be a mass protest to the Chinese Embassy. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has to play active roles in this respect. The struggle at the Dura Pack is an opportunity for the NLC to prove that its documented opposition against casualisation and anti-labour practices is not a mere lip service or hot air. The ongoing struggle is being watched by other employers of labour who may take a cue if the Dura Pack management is allowed to get away with these anti-labour practices. This struggle can be won if there are sustained solidarity actions from other workers and unions. The pro-labour organizations especially the affiliates of the Joint Action Front (JAF) who participated actively at October 7 Decent Work Protest March should give solidarity actions to the striking workers.
Having been on the strike for over two weeks without any visible sign of progress, few of the workers have already started wavering. Some of them have even gone inside to collect the pay-out which they thought would be a substantial amount but turned out to be a paltry sum of between N3, 000 and N5, 000. They were even forced into signing letter of resignation prepared by the management. Good enough the majority of workers are still resolute. Indeed, the terrible experience of the frustrated black leg workers has further made the majority to be more committed to the struggle. But the top hierarchy of NUCFRLANMPE has to show and make serious efforts to sustain the morale of the workers to continue the struggle and actualize victory. We learnt that the union is planning to take the company to the industrial court. While this is welcome we strongly hold that this judicial approach should only be taken as a complementary effort to sustained solidarity activities by the union and NLC.

The highlighted above shows that it was Ekiti South that has never produced a governor of the state,Even the Federal appointee only Dr Tunde Odunsina(Ise Ekiti) Ekiti South was appointed as Minister just less than a year since 1999.
Ekiti people,we need to focus on the Governorship aspirants that come from Ekiti South Senatorial district.
Infact,Ekiti South have 6 LGA while other two Zones had 5 LGA each.

Ekiti South Senatorial District should wake up from Slumber,it is high time to reposition our self.

It is possible that Ekiti state will decide who will be there next governor that will governs them but we should not forget the fact in the interest of Equity,Justice and Fairness, every section of the state should have a sense of belonging.

Ekiti State belongs to all of us and not a particular zone.
Ekiti South should be given the chance to present the next Governor.
God Bless Ekiti State
