ROBBERS IN POLICE UNIFORM TERRORISE WARRI

ARMED robbers operating in full police gear have been terrorising Warri, Ekpan, and their environment in the last one month.
Residents have now petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Ikechukwu Aduba, and Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan reporting daily attacks by the gang who also snatch vehicles from unsuspecting motorists who often mistake them for genuine policemen.
In a petition to the governor yesterday, Co-ordinator of Niger Delta Peace Coalition, Mr. Zik Gbemre, chronicled the growing incidents of armed robbery and other criminal activities in Warri and environs, especially within the last two weeks.
“It is seriously becoming a great source of worry that urgently needs special attention by both the Delta State Police Command and the Delta State Government. The situation is so bad that within the last two weeks, three police officers have lost their lives and their guns taken by armed robbers,” he wrote.
“The worst thing is that these armed robbers operate with uniforms to make them look like they are in the Force, and they operate in groups. There is hardly any day that one or more serious armed robbery incident does not take place in Warri and environs.
Practically, no one is safe in Warri and environs. Perhaps, with the Yuletide season approaching in the ember months, these armed robbery incidents are increasing.”

He therefore urged the Delta State Police Command to intensify vigilance and security operations in Warri and environs.
