2015: Tambuwal warns politicians against overheating polity

Ahead of 2015 elections, Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, yesterday, warned politicians to stop overheating the polity, saying that there was still time for it.

Tambuwal who spoke when he received a delegation of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, regretted that even when the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was yet to roll out programmes for 2015 elections, politicians are falling heads over for the election.

He said: “I have always said that our politicians should be very careful in the way they take things about 2015. We must learn to do things within the confines of our laws. INEC has not yet released time table or elections guidelines, but they are busy overheating the politics with most politicians abandoning their duties.”

The President of the NBA, Okey Wali, SAN, told the Speaker that the visit was prompted by a need to call on members of the House to enact laws that will strengthen the Nigerian judicial system.

He remarked that by passing bills on criminal justice, police, administration of criminal justice among others will help the system.

He said: “We appeal to you to pass these bills so that our justice system can be enhanced. We understand some of them have gone through second reading, so we call on you and your colleagues to ensure their quick passage.”
