Former Osun state Head of Service, Mr. Segun Akinwusi yesterday lamented the high rate of indebtedness of the state, saying the state has borrowed over #350 billion since assumption of the Governor Rauf Aregbesola led
government.

Mr Akinwusi who is the Governorship Candidate of the Unity Party of Nigeria
for the 2014 Governorship election in the state said the government started
borrowing in 2011 after the composition of the state Executive Council.

He also disclosed that the state was still servicing the loans incurred by
the government of Late Chief Bola Ige in the old Oyo state, saying that the
debt profile of the state has increased greatly since Aregbesola assumed
office.

According to him, Osun state is one of the highest indebted states in the
country, pointing out that the state had borrowed from various financial
institutions in the country.

“I insist that the state has borrowed to the tune of #350 billion. This is
a fact that no body can contradicts. I have the fact of the matter. The
state took bond from some financial institutions and also took loans at
various times.”

He observed that some civil servants in the state were forced to play
politics, stressing that the civil service ethos were against politics.

On the schools reclassification programme of the state government, Mr
Akinwusi who condemned the policy also described the new government policy
as an invitation to anarchy and advised the state government to reverse the
action.
